Baby Strollers, Which Are Right For You?

So your child has arrived or is at least on its way. With that in mind you are officially in the market for a stroller. Now ready to purchase the stroller, what is the best type?

There are many different types of strollers out there and selecting the right one is not difficult especially if you do your research. The research is where we come in. We have put together a thorough listing of the strollers that may or may not be best for you.

Be wary of imitations and be sure you purchase a true “jogger” stroller. Just because a stroller has three wheels does not mean it was designed for jogging.

Pram/Carriage Strollers
Traditional in style these strollers are perfect for casual strolls to show off your newborn, but are not always the most practical. They are usually only designed for infants, but can be upgraded to toddler, which can add to the price. The may also be marketed as “Baby Carriages” by some manufactures.

Standard Strollers
Probably the most practical of all the strollers, the standard strollers can stand the test of time better than most and make great hand-me-downs. Their seats recline so they are great for most children from infant to toddler and are generally easy to push on smooth surfaces, such as mall and suburban areas.

Lightweight Strollers
Although not built for the every day use, Lightweight strollers are ideal for the trip to the store of the family vacation, where you just don’t want to be weighed down buy another bulky item. Mostly recommend for children over 1 year of age, they do not recline and smaller children may not be comfortable in them. They make an excellent backup stroller due to their inexpensive price.

Umbrella Strollers
Similar to the Lightweight stroller these strollers are very inexpensive and are easy to fold and store away. Since they are easy to fold they make good travel strollers as well. Navigation is easy with the Umbrella as well, as they are small and can get around most tight quarters.

Jogging Strollers
When the sun is out and the day calls for a jog there is no better partner than your child, which is why manufactures have committed themselves to introducing Jogging Strollers. They are fast becoming the new thing in strollers and are designed so you won’t have to compromise your jog. Wrist straps can be secured to the strollers to ensure the stroller does not escape your grasp.

All-Terrain Strollers
While we are not talking about ATV’s here, these strollers are built to handle most terrains. They look similar to the jogging stroller with their three-wheel system, but differ in how they are designed. The front wheel turns freely so it can be easily maneuvered through most terrains. This makes this stroller as smooth in the outdoors as it is in the malls.

Combo Strollers
Is it a stroller or a basinet? It is actually both; the combo strollers are practical, because they do serve as both a basinet and a stroller. This is great because the parents can get more years out of this hybrid. It is easy to go from basinet to stroller and vice/versa, if the child should fall asleep and need to be transported. Extra padding and other add-ons may be expensive, but worth it if you plan to keep the stroller for a few years.

Travel System
As the name would indicate these strollers are great for taking the child on a trip, as they go from car seat to stroller quite easily. It is another stroller that may be expensive, but is used for a few years and offers two items in one, so it’s well worth the extra money.

Bike Trailers
If jogging is not your forte, you can still find a way to exercise with your child. Bike Trailers are a great and safe alternative to bicycle seats. There is no risk of the child falling and they are safeguarded buy a plastic surrounding and low to the ground. Some of the more expensive versions may double as a walking or jogging stroller too.

Other Baby Strollers for Special Needs:
For those parents with more than one child there is a line of Double, Triple and Quadruple Strollers. Each identifies the needs of the parents who have more than one offspring and need to travel with them on a regular basis. The strollers come in side-by-side or inline (the seats lined up one behind another). Many of the manufactures are making the strollers less bulky these days and even have them coming in lightweight, standard, umbrella and jogging versions, just as the singles do.
