How do I Know if My Stroller Complies With the Basic Safety Guidelines:

• For your child’s protection it is strongly advised that a safety harness be used to restrain the child when in the stroller (a 5-point harness most recommended).
• A proper locking device is essential to prevent the stroller from collapsing whether in motion or just standing idle.
• To prevent injury to the child metal shock absorbing springs should be covered with plastic or out of the child’s reach.
• To make certain a child is never left unattended and always securely restrained; a warning label should come attached to the stroller and never removed.
• When the stroller is on an incline or unsecured surface they should be able to maintain their stability at all times.

With these basic guidelines in mind, The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA), have there own guidelines which many companies today are following as well, to ensure your child’s safety.

ASTM, What?
The American Society for Testing and Materials or ASTM is a US recognized national standards-setting organization for engineering-related materials and testing. Their test and studies ensure the safety of strollers and test their strength, stability, durability and maneuverability.

What is a JPMA Certified Baby Stroller?
For a stroller to be JPMA certified is like an angel getting its wings, it is a great accomplish. Once the stroller has met all of the ASTM’s safety standards is will be stamped with the JPMA or the Juvenile Products Manufactures Association certification. This assures that the stroller has met the ASTM’s standards being put through a series of test for brake efficiency, stability, proper restraint system and load tests on the baby stroller and footrest.
To see if the stroller of your choice has met these guidelines look for the JPMA seal on the stroller’s packaging.
